    « CHARACTER INFORMATION »

      Character: Sephiroth
      Canon: Final Fantasy VII
Canon point: After arriving at Nibelheim, but with CRAU from Upcycle, as well.
      OU or AU?: AU (CRAU)
      Age: Approx. 22 years old
Species: Human, genetically hybridized with a cosmic space horror. (It’s fine.)

AU clarification: Sephiroth’s personality didn’t change much during his time at Upcycle, but he was affected by his castmates which knew a version of him from his future — a version that was far more unhinged, murderous, and villainous than how he knew himself to be. As a result, he found himself dealing with two new issues: a cast that looked upon him with suspicion, claiming to know more about him than he could easily believe and adjusting to a world that seemed to psychologically test every individual present. Due to the necessities of the latter, he achieved a tenuous understanding and cooperation with his cast, though there was always the lingering elephant in the room: the apparent revelation that his future self would set fire to the mountain village of Nibelheim, effectively slaughtering the majority of the population.

This is a revelation he is still struggling with, testing his already waning loyalty with Shinra and questioning his own character, or the validity of what he’s been told without any true proof to base it upon. Beyond personal concerns, though, Sephiroth’s stint in another world means that he has accepted the idea of multiple universes and alternate realities more easily, given his prior experience with individuals hailing from all strange walks of life. He’s even more adaptable, if a bit begrudgingly, than he was in canon.

      Disposition:

ALOOF AND SEVERE — The most notable aspect of Sephiroth’s personality is undoubtedly how cold he seems to those around him. By way of his appearance, he is intimidating; by way of his demeanor, he is distant. He doesn’t waste extra effort on idle banter, adhering to the cut-and-dry habits of a man born and raised in the military, nor does he go out of his way to seek connections with strangers. In fact, having been raised mostly without any desire or necessity to engage in social nuisances, Sephiroth generally lacks them — he is not purposefully unfriendly or rude, per se, but rather that he is so unused to being personable that he often does not know how to approach certain conversations or casual meetings without finding little to say. And rarely is he the sort to fill the air with empty platitudes to ease the tension.

INTELLIGENT AND OBSERVANT — Sephiroth may be the farthest thing from a social butterfly, but he still harbors a degree of curiosity and fascination when it comes to other people. Though introverted, he is keenly observant to make up for it, preferring greatly to take in the predilections of a crowd rather than take part in their activities. He has a sharp mind that is intellectual, logical, and tactical (even if he lacks some generalized, mundane knowledge given how he was raised), and he rarely acts impulsively or recklessly. He is also innately curious, often seeking knowledge simply because he can, preferring to uncover answers rather than live in ignorance.

NO SENSE OF BELONGING, ISOLATED — Sephiroth knows that he is different in both kind and degree. He is stronger than anyone he knows on Gaia, the most talented and lauded as the “perfect” SOLDIER with nothing to prove otherwise. He is put on a pedestal by both the company and his peers, which proved to only disconnect himself further from those around him. Even without knowing of his true origins, he already feels as though he is “other”, and given his unknown parentage, he never had even the commonality of family to ground himself in. He doesn’t know where he comes from, and he does not feel as though he completely belongs with those around him. As a result, he is left in a wake of wanting to fill this void, but stymied by his innate inability to connect with others. To say this leaves him isolated isn’t an understatement — to say it is even lonely, in a way he might never admit to, is just as reasonable.

RUMINATING AND VAGUELY OBSESSIVE — With an intelligent, curious mind and a propensity to keep many of his thoughts and emotions to himself, Sephiroth often turns inward to the point of detrimental rumination. He is thoughtful but unwilling to share ninety percent of what might actually churn in his mind, leaving the burden to process events, revelations, and other emotionally affecting situations for himself and no one else. This isn’t exactly healthy, but since when did a SOLDIER ever process their emotions in a proper way? Sephiroth also has a tendency to hyperfixate on people or objects that truly catch his attention, to the point where it might be a little overbearing or unwanted to the target in question — though this is far less obtrusive at his current canon point than it will be farther down the line.

PETTY AND A LITTLE PRIDEFUL — Again, Sephiroth knows he’s special; and when this isn’t a point of quiet uncertainty, it’s something he takes as a truth, especially in the heat of battle. So little can touch him in canon, that he does not face an enemy with trepidation or fear, but rather with the confidence of a man playing a game. He is assured of his skill and treats every fight as such, even if he doesn’t verbally tout it. Also—there’s no getting around it—he can be a bit petty when he feels he’s been wronged or offended, closing himself off with a sharp word or three whenever this happens. Though it takes plenty to truly get under his skin, little annoyances slip in easily, and he can’t bring himself to bother humoring them.

      Under pressure:

Sephiroth is a fighter first and foremost, military-trained and very hard to faze. He was the deciding factor in a war at the young age of twelve, and since then his life has been little more than missions and fighting at the behest of the company he works for. He has fought people and monsters both, and faces each encounter fearlessly and without hesitation. In a new game setting, he processes the change by treating it much the same — a mission to see to the end, seeking a goal in his existence in a new world to adhere to. He believes himself adaptable, and he is, pushing through whatever he must so that he can make his return to his planet a priority, and maybe uncover the truth about his future in the meanwhile.

Overall, he will function much the same as before, seeing no need to deviate from the norm, though physical affection may be a sticking point — again, adaptability and necessity will play a part in seeking out a reliance on other people, which may open up opportunities he would never consider before, given his antisocial nature that would otherwise avoid it.

Condition upon arrival: Whole and hale. Healthy, with no injuries from canon or his prior game setting.

      Abilities:

Please note that these powers specifically reflect Sephiroth's abilities from his current canon point.

Combat Ability - Sephiroth possesses enhanced speed, strength, agility, resilience, recovery, and combat superiority. Due to the Jenova cells in his body, coupled with the process of infusing Mako into every SOLDIER, these abilities are more extraordinary that of an average human. Sephiroth, in particular, is leagues beyond that of even his fellow SOLDIERs.

Swordsmanship - He excels in swordsmanship, able to utilize his weapon (Masamune) with swiftness and ease. His move set changes depending on which part of the compilation he appears in, but the gist is often the same -- he relies on speed, accuracy, and the guarantee that his blade can cut through almost anything. He's also able to fight reliably mid-air, as well as leap to great heights.

Magic - Excels at utilizing materia to cast magic. These equippable items are mastered, meaning that his spells are more potent than average.

Jenova Cells - With Jenova cells in his own body, specifically S-cells, this dictates that Sephiroth would be able to sense and, with conscious effort, control those who also are also in possession of them. Given his canon point, he is currently unaware of his ability.

      Inventory:
-Masamune, a very long katana-like sword
      -A fully mastered fire materia
-His very black and very leathery 1st Class SOLDIER’s uniform

      Gembond: Sapphire
Gem Location: In fragments (if that’s acceptable), running up the right side of his neck
